Our Roots

Brokers Alliance began with a 6 foot 6 inch elementary-school teacher in Illinois who sold life insurance at night and on the weekends to provide for a growing family. That teacher was Joe Racich. What started as a second job became a career, and then an industry of its own.

Soon after building his agency, Joe started a newspaper called The Illinois Broker. Most general agents at the time spent their days mailing flyers and recruiting local agents one at a time. Joe took a different path. He used the paper to bring real news to the insurance community while giving his own brokerage low-cost visibility, and competitors paid to advertise in it to reach tens of thousands of agents across the state. Within a few years it was the most widely read insurance publication in Illinois.

Joe did not stop there. He expanded the brokerage and the paper into Arizona and Nevada, then licensed the model so brokerage companies in other states could run their own regional edition while his team produced the articles and managed the advertising. Renamed Broker News, it grew to reach more than 600,000 agents across 20 regions within a decade. That habit of questioning the standard way of doing things, and building something better, is the foundation Brokers Alliance still runs on.

David Racich, Owner and CEO

David Racich is the owner, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Brokers Alliance, Inc., one of the country's leading independently owned distributors of life insurance and annuities. He acquired Brokers Alliance in 2009 from its founder, his father Joe Racich, who started the company in 1982, and has led it ever since as a second-generation, family-owned business now in its fifth decade.

A technologist and entrepreneur who has built software throughout his career, David brings an engineer's systems-first approach to insurance distribution. Under his leadership, Brokers Alliance has become one of the most technology-enabled IMO, FMO, and BGA partners in the industry, building its own software in-house rather than competing on commissions and carrier access alone. That proprietary platform includes MyAdvisorCloud, an advisor business platform and CRM provided to contracted agents at no monthly charge; MyAdvisorGrids, commission-grid and carrier-compensation comparison tooling; RetirementBrain, retirement income planning and illustration tools; and automated contracting and onboarding built specifically for how independent agents work.

David's work reaches well beyond Brokers Alliance. He is a co-founder of Acrylic Financial, a registered investment advisor, and of Acrylic Capital, a hedge fund; and an active angel investor in early-stage technology and insurance companies. He has been featured as a funder at The Founders Chair, where he is described as a CEO, hedge fund founder, AI expert, and engineer.

For all of that, David runs Brokers Alliance the way a family business should be run. He built the company around a simple belief: independent agents and advisors deserve the technology, the support, and the top-tier compensation to grow without giving up their independence or their book of business, and everyone, from a brand-new agent to a decades-long partner, should be treated like they matter.
